February 7-17, 2018
The workshop runs ten days, from pick-up at Calcutta’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport early Wednesday afternoon, February 7, through return to the airport on Saturday, February 17.
note: We are asking writers who want to register for this workshop to arrive in Delhi a few days before it begins and plan on spending 2-4 nights there in order to recuperate from jetlag before flying to Calcutta on February 7. Four nights would be ideal, giving registrants an opportunity to get used to the diet and the pace of India, as well as take a day trip out to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, or to the famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, or perhaps to Vrindavan, with its temples devoted to Lord Krishna.
We can help with trip arrangements, as well as a referral to a clean and welcoming B&B in a quiet Delhi neighborhood. The flight from Delhi to Calcutta, round trip, is less than $150, and only takes two hours. Jet Airways, for instance, offers flight 907, leaving Delhi at 10:50am, and arriving Calcutta at 1:05. And since attendees will have already gone through customs upon arrival in India, no time will be wasted in the Calcutta airport, where we will have a coach waiting to take everyone to the hotel.
Make sure your passport is valid at the time of entry and for the duration of your trip in India. Also, make sure there are two blank passport pages for your India visa. At the time you register, we will send detailed instructions for the visa application, which is made somewhat complicated by the national love affair with bureaucracy.
